The Caribbean Local Economic Development Project (CARILED)

    The Caribbean Local Economic Development Project (CARILED) is a six year project to develop and test models of Local Economic Development (LED) across the Caribbean.

    Time Frame: May 2012 – December 2017

    Funding: CAD $23 million
    - CAD $19 million – The Government of Canada through Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada
    - CAD $4 million – In-kind contributions by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, as well as other Caribbean and
    Commonwealth partners.

    Teams: The CARILED project has headquarters in Trinidad and Tobago, and project teams in Belize, Guyana, Jamaica and Saint Lucia (OECS Sub-Office). CARILED also has staff within the Federation of Canadian Municipalities in Canada. CARILED also works with Local Economic Development Officers (LEDOs) in seven (7) countries.

     

    CARILED is implemented by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, in partnership with:

    Caribbean Forum of Local Government Ministers (CFLGM)
    Caribbean Association of Local Government Authorities (CALGA)
    Commonwealth Local Government Forum (CLGF)

     

    CARILED is also guided by a Technical Working Group and governed by a Project Steering Committee. For more information on CARILED Partners and governance structure, click here.

    CARILED also collaborates with:

    Ministries of Local Government
    Ministries of Social and Community Development
    National Advisory Groups for Local Economic Development
    Local Economic Development Planning and Advisory Groups

    Academic Organizations (The University of the West Indies, The University of Belize, The University of Guyana, among others)
