While recognizing the critical role of petroleum and its derivatives, as well as natural gas as key fuel sources in the Region, the overwhelming focus of the CARICOM Energy Programme is on sustainable energy development as this is seen to be the area which holds significant scope for the transformation of the Region’s energy sector from one that is mostly dependent on expensive, imported fossil sources to one that is more resilient to the vagaries of international pricing and supply by increasing the use of indigenous, cost effective renewable energy sources and improving the efficiency with which we produce, deliver and use energy.
