The Forty-First Special Meeting of the Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED) -Energy resulted in the following decision:
“ Approved the initial regional level targets for Renewable Energy (RE) contribution to total electricity generation in CARICOM of twenty per cent (20%), twenty-eight per cent (28%) and forty-seven per cent (47%) for years 2017, 2022 and 2027 respectively, as recommended by the Second Meeting of the Caribbean Sustainable Energy Roadmap and Strategy Platform (C-SERMS-P); “
In spite of this decision, and a mandate for Member States to adopt net billing policies, very little progress has been made in meeting the sustainable energy targets of the region.
