Prime Minister of Barbados, the Hon. Mia Amor Mottley last week underscored the power of example and inspiration, and the role governments must play in creating the environment for girls to dare to shine.

She was at the time delivering the keynote address at the first FIFA Women’s Football Convention held in Paris, France. The Convention was held ahead of the kick-off of the eighth FIFA Women’s World Cup on June 7.

The convention assembled leaders in sports and politics for the first time, to discuss key issues around the development and empowerment of women in football.

Quoting Bob Marley’s lyrics, Prime Minister Mottley also gave a vote of confidence to the Reggae Girlz of Jamaica who she predicted were going to “stir it up”. The Reggae Girlz are the Jamaica Women’s football team which debuted at the Women’s World Cup on Sunday 9 June in France against Brazil. The team lost that game 3-0. They next take on Italy on Friday, June 14, then Australia on Tuesday, June 18.
