Representatives of CARICOM Member States last week attended a workshop at the CARICOM Secretariat that was aimed at training national experts to compile data on Government expenditure on agriculture. The training from 22- 24 May, was also geared at getting data for Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) on agriculture and reporting to the international agencies.
The Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), which is the custodian United Nations (UN) agency for 21 SDG indicators and a contributing agency for an additional four, facilitated the workshop.
SDG 2 aims to “End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture.”
SDG Target 2.a aims to “increase investment, including through enhanced international cooperation in rural infrastructure, agricultural research and extension services, technology development and plant and livestock gene banks in order to enhance agricultural productive capacity in developing countries, in particular least developed countries.”
