The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) is comprised of fifteen (15) countries all of which may be classified among the most vulnerable in the world with ten of the States readily fitting into most definitions of 'micro states'. The countries share a number of special developmental challenges, social, economic and vulnerability to natural disasters, which impinge adversely on efforts at development. The Community sees cooperation at the political, economic and functional levels as critical to the narrowing of development gaps existing between the Community and the developed world without which real development will not be attained.
